Christmas Program Wows Parents and Friends of SWS

Southwest School held its annual Christmas program just prior to taking three weeks of vacation. Students from all grade levels participated with Christmas carols, skits, recorder group and dances. Pictured here are some of the Kindergarten (Preparatoria) students entertaining the enthusiastic crowd of parents and friends with a Christmas song.

First Graders Harvest Giant Pumpkins

The first grade students harvested the fruits their labors, picking 3 pumpkins from the plants they transplanted on the first day of school. They spent the rest of the day weighing, measuring, and counting the seeds from their largest pumpkin (held by Ms. Corita in the photo), as well as other related literacy activities on "Pumpkin Day".

Ms. Nancy Teaches about Musical Instruments

Shown here are the second graders displaying the variety of musical instruments that are being studied in Ms. Nancy's music classes. All grades are being exposed to the instruments with the level of study varying according to grade levels. The oldest students are writing reports about an instrument and are making "homemade" instruments to share with the younger students. This has been a very popular unit in music class.

Marching Band leads SWS in Independence Parade

The Wildcats' middle schoolers showed their musical talent in the Independence Day parade, leading the school with the rhymical beats of the Marching Band. Able to play 16 different drum rolls, they impressed the local residents all through town.

Concern for Environment a Parade Theme

The Preschool students (Kinder) were adorable in animal costumes as they rode on their float dedicated to protecting the environment during the Independence Day parade.
